United Arab Emirates

Most artificial country on earth, hyper-modern cities in the middle of the desert, original culture is hard to find but totally worth it, alcohol is available for tourists but very expensive...

FAVORIT SPOTS

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - Abu Dhabi

Best Time: Sunset to blue hour spot
Remarks: Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi is my favorite place. It is quite, people are so much more relaxed and it is a little bit cooler. My first spot actually not at the mosque, it is across the street. Abu Dhabi built here a memorial with a reflection pool which seems to be just built for this shot. If you have the chance, I recommend definitely a visit to both, the memorial and of cause the mosque. The pool is just 1-5cm deep and due to stadium like grandstands around it, the wind is not effecting the reflection. Tripods are allowed and due to the not that easy connection to the mosque, there are not many people.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - Abu Dhabi

Best Time: All day long
Remarks: This spot is in the Mosque. Tripods are not forbidden in general but there are some spots where they are not allowed. So watch out for signs. If you are not sure, if it is appropriate to take a picture just ask. In mosques, wearing shoes is forbidden and women have to cover their hair. If you don't like it, don't go. I experienced several times people arguing. I still don't get why people think it is appropriate to start a discussion about this at the mosque. The local people are very friendly. Sometimes, they want to show you around. Don't worry they don't want to have any money - they have probably much more than you have ;). They are just very proud of the building and want to explain the architecture and a bit the religion behind it. As the mosque is made mainly out of polished Marmor, there are mirror effects everywhere. So what out for these opportunities and enjoy.
